The fusion of information technology with business and society creates new opportunities and challenges, which change people's thinking and behavior, overturn traditional business rules, and give birth to new business models. With the development of new technologies such as the Internet, Internet of Things, cloud computing, big data, and artificial intelligence, the scope of studies in Information Management and Information Systems continues to grow and mature, producing talented graduates who have in-depth understanding and insight into information technology and management theory and can adapt to the needs of future social development.

Learning Objectives

The program aims to cultivate talents who grasp the principles of business activities in the era of digital economy and who have comprehensive capabilities to develop and apply information technology and mathematical methods to optimize management, improve performance, and lead innovation.

Teaching Plan

Information Management and Information Systems is a growing inter-domain discipline that integrates knowledge from the fields of management, information science, economics, behavior science, and sociology. After four years of undergraduate study, students will have the skills to use basic information and communication technology (including a consolidated foundation in mathematics, necessary information technology skills, and solid business data analysis capabilities) and develop important advantages for their careers. Students are also expected to possess good potential to assume management responsibilities, with an international vision on economics, systematic management, and excellent communication skills, which will support their future growth into senior management.

Academic Strengths

The Information Management and Information Systems major at Tsinghua University is one of the earliest undergraduate programs in this discipline throughout China. It is offered by the Department of Management Science and Engineering at the School of Economics and Management. Tsinghua's Management Science and Engineering discipline was rated first in the National University Discipline Evaluations in 2012 and rated A+ in 2017. It is acknowledged for its leadership position in academic research and student training. Its research areas, curriculum, and educational methodology are of exemplary influence across the country.

After graduation, students can enter various enterprises and government departments to engage in big data analytics and management, Internet and business intelligence construction, management decision analysis, and operational optimization. Primary employers include well-known domestic and foreign consulting companies, financial institutions, government agencies, telecommunications companies, and Internet companies. At present, most graduates choose to continue their studies (more than 70 percent) and pursue master's and doctoral degrees at home and abroad. The Department of Management Science and Engineering has a master's program and a doctoral program in management. Subareas of these programs include information systems and business intelligence, operation management, business statistics and business analysis.
